The next time you're looking for a casual match, all you have to do is send an email message to the Game Finder address - gamefinder@washingtonclub.net. Something like this will work just fine:
"I'm a beginner player looking for a game at 2:00 on Tuesday. Anyone interested?"
Everyone on the Game Finder list will receive your message and if anyone's available to play, you'll get an email response.
Find Your Level
In an effort to match people with games and properly place players in clinics and tournaments, the Tennis Committee has come up with the following categories and tennis levels.
I. Beginner Players
Are you a Beginner?
Do you have limited experience and are you learning how to keep the tennis ball in play? Are you working on your strokes and are you beginning to be familiar with the basic positions for singles and doubles play?
Are you an Advanced Beginner?
Can you sustain a short rally of slow pace with other players of the same ability? Are you learning to judge where the ball is going?
II. Intermediate Players
Are you an Intermediate Player?
Are you consistent when hitting medium-paced shots? Are you still working on being able to control the ball, its depth and your power? When you play doubles, is your formation usually one player at the net and one player in the back of the court?
Are you an Advanced Intermediate Player?
Can you hit your shots with dependability, control and depth using moderate pace? Can you cover the court well and often be aggressive at net? Are you developing good teamwork when playing doubles?
III. Advanced Players
Are you an Advanced Player?
Do you have dependable strokes, including directional control and depth on both forehand and backhand sides on moderate-paced shots? Can you use lobs, overheads, approach shots and volleys with success and occasionally force errors when serving? Are you able to consistently use teamwork when playing doubles?
Are you a Very Advanced Player?
Have you developed your use of power and spin and can you handle pace? Can you control your depth of shots and attempt to vary your game plan according to your opponent’s game? Can you regularly hit winners or force errors off of short balls and put away volleys? Can you successfully execute lobs, drop shots, half volleys, and overhead smashes? Can you hit first serves with power and accuracy and place your second serve with good depth and spin? Do you consistently play aggressively at the net when playing doubles? |
