Junior Camp

Summer tennis camp is a great way to introduce children to the thrill of intensive tennis instruction, stroke and movement drills, doubles and singles strategy, on court games, match play, awards, prizes and plenty of fun! Camp is for juniors age 7 and up who will be placed into a group with others of similar ability. Signups are on a first come, first served basis with priority going to Club members.

Juniors are encouraged to participate in the Parent/Child Tournament, the Junior Davis Cup, the Junior Club Championships, the Tennis Ladder, as well as the Teen Tennis Team. For Juniors participating in the Camp whose families are not members, the Washington Tennis Section offers a Solo Junior Membership. Click here to learn about Solo Junior Membership. NOTE: This year we are happy to continue to provide access to indoor tennis courts for use during inclement weather. On rainy days, junior camp will be held in the gym at Rumsey Hall. The fee for this option will be $10 per camper per day.

Fees:
Member $200 per week
Non-Member $ 275 per week

We also suggest campers consider whacking some golf balls during Fran's Junior Golf Sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 - 10:30 A.M. beginning June 30th. Check the golf page to sign up.

Junior Clinics (Ages 7-9)

Junior clinics are conducted with a progressive approach which takes children from the beginning aspects of the game up to advanced tennis. During these clinics, students will enjoy on court activities designed to develop their stroke production, drills, and strategy. Juniors are initially grouped by age but may be moved based on ability.

Little Buckies/Junior Clinics Sunday (Ages: Open)

New this season!! We will be offering a "multi-court" clinic to the children on Sundays. Little Buckies and Juniors will be divided up by age/ability and will enjoy on court activities designed to introduce basic racquet skills for the little ones and development of stroke production, drills, and strategy for the older kids.

Please note: This clinic will not be held on Sunday, July 3rd due to the holiday weekend.

Little Buckies (Ages 4-6)

Little Buckies is designed to provide children with a fun and healthy introduction to the game with ball sense and basic racquet skills.

Junior's Ladders

Tennis ladders are an exciting way to find new matches and enjoy some friendly competition with other members of the Club. There will be ladders for beginner, intermediate and advanced players - organized into 3 levels for men and women and 2 levels for juniors.

The ladders will be:
Juniors A (12-16 yrs) and B (up to 11 yrs)

Rules of the Ladder

The original rankings will be done by lottery. Please sign up by Friday, July 1st to be involved in the opening lottery.

Players who join after this date will be allowed one free challenge to get onto the ladder. If they lose this match, they will go to the bottom of this list.

1.How are challenges issued?
Challenges are issued directly from player to player.
After you have signed up you will be forwarded contact information on the members within your ladder.

2. How long do I have to accept or decline a challenge?
Players have 48 hours to accept or decline a challenge.

3. How long do I have to play a match and report the results?
A match must be completed within one week of the challenge being accepted.
Results should be reported within 24 hours.

phone at 860-868-7127.

4. Is there a limit to how many people I can challenge?
Each player may only be involved in one challenge at a time as challengee or challenger.

5. Can someone decline a challenge?
The expectation is that all players will accept all challenges issued to them.
The only time someone should decline a challenge is when they are already involved in another challenge.

6. What is the format?
Matches are a pro set to 8 with a tiebreaker at 7 all.

Junior Kickoff Scramble

Come help us kick off the 2011 tennis season for the kids. Get them out early on the courts to meet the Pros and get a taste of the upcoming junior programs. We will have fun and competitive games on the courts, target serving for prizes etc. This will also be another opportunity for the parents to sign their kids up for camps and clinics.

Kids' Pizza and Tennis Night

Enjoy an evening eating pizza that will be served on the deck! Please come with your friends (ages 7 and up) for the Kid's Pizza Party. Play some tennis before the party and listen to music on the deck. There will be tennis games and prizes too. Join the Pro and his staff for an evening of Fun Tennis!

Little Buckies' Pizza Party

Enjoy pizza after your Little Buckies Tennis Clinic! Please sign up for this late afternoon pizza party hosted by the Pro and his staff. Pizza will be served on the deck with many other enjoyable goodies. Lots Of Fun!

Give your child the opportunity to experience this new and exciting tournament in person. Parents: Please email the tennis staff at tennis@washingtonclub.net (I forgot that Brian set this up...just need to figure out the password I guess) if once your child is signed up there is a need to withdraw.

Junior Club Championship

The Junior Club championship is a great way for Juniors to have fun and put to use all the new tennis skills they have learned over the summer! Deadline for Junior Club Championship Draw is Friday, August 12th.

Teen Tennis Team (Ages 13-19)

The Teen Team is designed to provide teenagers with the opportunity to join a team to practice and play competitive matches against other tennis clubs throughout the season. All levels welcome! Come to the clinics and choose to play competitively.

Junior Davis Cup

Juniors will compete on teams representing various countries from around the world. Grab your racquet and an empanada or a samosa to see which nation emerges victorious by the end of the day. As a member of a team you will play either singles, doubles or mixed doubles against opposing teams. This is a fun Club event that anyone can play, so sign up and represent your country to win the Junior Davis Cup!
