Holt Beach

Rules, Regulations & Information

Holt Beach is open Monday – Sunday from 11:00-7:00

There is both a gas grill and a charcoal grill available for your use.  The charcoal grill is lit by the lifeguards on Friday evenings, starting at 5:00 p.m.  On other weeknights, there are bags of charcoal available.  There is a fridge and a sink in the Clubhouse for your use as well.

There are kayaks, canoes, sailboats and sand toys available in the sail room.  Life preservers are also stored in the sail room.  (Please see below for State and Club requirements with respect to the use of life preservers.)

Beach Etiquette

  1. Holt Beach is managed by its members and each one of us is responsible for its cleanliness, safety and hospitality.  Only in this way can we ensure that all members and their guests will have an enjoyable time when using Holt Beach.

  2. All children’s activities must be supervised by parents, nannies, or babysitters to insure that other members are not disturbed by such activities.

  3. No pets allowed anywhere on the property.

No valuables should be left in the changing areas, and all personal property must be removed from these areas and the refrigerator on a daily basis.

Lost and found items should be turned over to the lifeguard.

Safety

  1. A lifeguard will be on duty during all open hours of the beach, however, parents must always be diligent in watching their own children.  All swimming/boating is at your own risk.

  2. Children may swim out to the far dock only after the lifeguard has checked out their swimming ability.  No inner tube, board or flotation aid may be used in swimming out to the far dock.

  3. Adult and child life jackets are available in the sail room.  It is a Connecticut State law that there must be a life jacket for each occupant in a boat.  It is required by the Club that everyone under the age of 16 wear one.  Steep fines have been imposed on violators by the State.

  4. Boats are not allowed in the swimming area.

  5. The lifeguard has the final say as to any and all issues related to safety.

Sign-in/Guests

  1. All members will be asked to sign-in upon arrival.  Guests may also be signed-in at the same time. All guests must be accompanied by their hosts; all children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult.

  2. Guest fees are set each year by the Board of Governors.  Note that individual guests may be invited to the beach a maximum of once per month regardless of host (exceptions include houseguests registered at the beginning of their stay and children under 12).

  3. Babysitters and nannies will not be considered as guests but must be registered in advance.

Parties/After Hours

  1. The Beach may not be reserved exclusively for private parties (members should not be excluded from the Beach at any time during the short summer).  If you intend to bring more than ten guests for a picnic after hours, please inform the lifeguard in advance.

  2. Guests invited after hours will incur a guest fee and will count per the guest maximum of once per month.

  3. On request the Ladies’ Room will be left open after hours to provide changing and bathroom facilities.

  4. Members are responsible for leaving the beach clean and orderly for the next day.

In the past, evening use of the Club has occasionally led to vandalism and complaints of noise from lake residents.  This has led to suggestions for a gate locked at night, police patrols, etc.  We do not wish to limit the use of Holt Beach in any way and will adhere to this philosophy as long as it proves viable.

Boats

  1. Due to agreements with our neighbors and for our mutual protection, no motor boats other than the Club Boat may be moored at the Beach.

  2. Mooring and winter storage of sailboats, wind-surfers, canoes, and rowing shells are available for a fee.  For that fee, you will receive a numbered sticker allowing your boat or windsurfer to be “moored” at the Club—both summer and winter for one season.

  3. All crafts on the premises are considered to be “moored” but you have the choice of a wet (buoy/anchor) mooring, dry racking in the boat rack, or (for windsurfers) an inside berth.  Space is available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

  4. No boats may be left on the lawn.

  5. We will do our best to notify owners of boats without stickers by June 15.  Boats that are unidentified by July 1 will be removed from the property.

  6. All locks for moored boats must be combination locks with the combinations left with the lifeguard on a confidential basis.

  7. Boat owners are responsible for their boats.  The Club is not responsible, nor is it insured for damage or loss.

  8. Various types of boats and windsurfers are available for use by members during the season.  Users must be prequalified by the lifeguard, Boat Chair, or Beach Section Chair before using these Club boats.
